GUELPH — Is there a better way to have a much-needed day off than to have someone give your hands a chocolate soufflé massage and a manicure?
Certainly not for 35-year-old Meridith Nodwell and her mother, whose birthday treat was the “You Deserve It Women’s Show” at the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre Sunday. Funds raised at the show went toward the Guelph-Wellington Women In Crisis.
As her nails were filed, polished and painted with purple, Nodwell said she wanted some time off without the kids to just feel pampered.
“We deserve a day,” she said.
Show organizer Christine McIver, who is a personal life coach, said the vision for the show came to her six months ago. While speaking with men and women, she said she noticed that women didn’t follow their dreams and weren’t doing things to make themselves happy.
“When I would encourage them, I would often be saying ‘You deserve it,” McIver said.
With all of the negativity in the world, she said, we need to go toward things that give us joy and make us happy.
If you are having a bad day, give yourselves a hot bath with candles and get your nails done, McIver said.
“Just watch your energy change,” she said.
The women’s show featured vendors from beauty salons, photo studios, massage therapists, naturopaths, healing books, shoes, hairdressers, chocolate and lingerie.
“It’s everything women love,” McIver said.
Getting a massage was a luxury on Sunday for Janet Benedict. The business owner said the stresses of her work have taken a toll.
“I love this massage,” she said, her head resting on a massage chair as a registered massage therapist kneaded the knots in her neck. “What is not to love?”
The last time she had such a treat was when her daughter-in-law presented a massage as a gift.
“I deserve it,” Benedict said smiling.
