Happy #PrideMonth and #IndigenousHistoryMonth to a Happy #PrideMonth and #IndigenousHistoryMonth to all!
We stand alongside and celebrate members and allies of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as well as First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples this month and every month!
June is National #IndigenousHistoryMonth. While we June is National #IndigenousHistoryMonth. While we shouldn’t wait until June to celebrate the many contributions of Indigenous Peoples and commemorate their legacy, the month gives us the chance to reflect and recognize the diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples’ history and culture.
It is only through understanding our true histories that we can create meaningfully approach reconciliation.
This month is an opportunity for us all to reflect on and learn about the history of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples and the land that we live on. It is a time to understand the historic and modern injustices, such as the Residential Schools program, the Sixties Scoop, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
It also provides us with the opportunity to learn more about pre-colonial histories, celebrate Indigenous knowledge, contributions and resiliency, support Indigenous-led businesses and organizations and find opportunities where you can show solidarity with movements surrounding Indigenous rights.
This work can be started today and this month but we must all continue on together.
