Celebrations of Survivorship 2025

May 30, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join us on Friday May 30th from 10:00am – 1:30pm at the Red Pavilion at Riverside Park for a showcase of local art created by survivors of sexual violence.

May is Sexual Violence Prevention Month – a month when sexual assault centres host events to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence in Canada and to show solidarity with those who have survived violence themselves.

“Celebrations of Survivorship” will feature an exhibit of local survivor art, as well as yoga, information tables and activities with local organizations that support people who have experienced sexual violence.

*Content Warning: the exhibit will focus on themes of sexual violence, violence, trauma and survivorship.

Schedule of Events

10-11am: Survivors will have a quiet moment to engage with the artworks

12:00: Gentle yoga session with Chantalle Asselin

11:30am-1:30pm: Community partners will be on site to talk and to share resources and information.

Meet Yoga Instructor Chantalle Asselin!

Chantalle Asselin seated next to grey yoga mat, wearing coral tank top and black leggings

Yoga with Chantalle began when I was 21 years old. I took a leave of absence from the University of Guelph where I was studying English. I was disillusioned with the world, and my mom suggested I go to Kripalu and take their yoga teacher training.  Life has never been the same! Yoga has become my activism. It is my space to cultivate and share more joy and more peace.

My vision is to create playful inclusive yoga classes where we can learn to love and care for ourselves, so that we can better love and care for each other.

Thanks to Chantalle Asselin for offering a yoga session for the day!
